The gift that does not run out
Share
Most scented gifts come with an expiry date nobody writes down. You give a candle, it gets lit, and some time in March it is gone. That is not a failure. It is what candles are for. But there is one gift in this category that ends differently, or rather does not end at all. Reed diffusers carry on, because you top them up. The bottle stays, the reeds stay, and only the scent is replaced.
What refillable actually means, in numbers
Refillable is an easy word to put on a label. Here is what it costs, with the sums, so you can check them yourself.
A bottle of Harmonea or Reposea reed diffusers holds 100 ml and costs €28. We put its scent duration at up to about four months. After that you top it up with a 250 ml refill at €36, good for up to about six months. Exactly how long depends on the room and on where the bottle stands.
Two sums, and they give different answers. Both are correct.
Per amount of perfume oil. A refill is 250 ml, which is exactly two and a half 100 ml bottles. Buying that same 250 ml as new bottles costs 2.5 × €28 = €70. The refill is €36. For the same amount of oil, you pay roughly half.
Per month of scent. €28 divided by four months is €7 a month. €36 divided by six months is €6 a month. About a euro a month cheaper, which is not the same thing as a halving.
They differ because we publish scent duration per product rather than converting it: the refill is rated at up to about six months, not two and a half times the four months of the small bottle. We print both figures, because the second one is the one that turns up on your bank statement.
And here is what neither sum contains: nothing gets thrown away. The glass bottle and the reeds go straight back into use, and the only thing you discard is the oil that has run out. Our guide to refilling a reed diffuser covers how the topping up itself works, step by step. This article is about giving one.
One thing said plainly: refillable applies to the reed diffusers only, and refills exist for Harmonea and Reposea. Candles and room sprays cannot be refilled. More on that below.
Why this makes a better gift
A gift that runs out quietly hands the recipient a decision: buy it again, or let it go. Usually it is the second, and an empty bottle ends up in the back of a cupboard because binning it feels wasteful too.
A refillable gift works differently, and the difference is in who keeps what. You buy it once. They keep the bottle and the reeds, and those stay theirs. There never has to be a whole new diffuser again, only more oil.
That gives you something a consumable gift cannot: you can come back to it. Next year you do not have to think of another new object that needs a place to live, a refill in the same scent is enough and it fits straight away. If you are after a sustainable gift rather than a sustainable-sounding one, that is the most concrete version we can offer. No broad claims, just a bottle that stays on the shelf.
Which refillable gift do you choose?
Is it a gift for her, for him, or for somebody else's home? The answer depends less on the person than on the room it will stand in.
Harmonea, 100 ml, €28. Fresh and harmonious. Bright bergamot and citrus, a floral heart of jasmine and rose, and a soft base of moss and cedarwood. A gift that always fits when you do not know their taste, and the obvious choice for a bright home with big windows.
Reposea, 100 ml, €28. Warm and enveloping. Soft vanilla and caramel, carried on musk and wood. For anyone who likes sweet and warm, and for the home where the lamp goes on at six and the curtains get drawn.
Both can be topped up after four months or so with a €36 refill, in exactly the same scent.
And Invigorea? Those reed diffusers hold 250 ml, cost €44 and last up to about six months. There is no Invigorea refill at the moment. If refillability is the point of the gift, choose Harmonea or Reposea.
Give the refill with it. This is what the whole article comes down to. Give the bottle on its own and, four months from now, a €36 bill lands on the person you gave it to, which is the problem this page opened with, moved four months down the line. A €28 bottle plus its matching refill at €36 is €64, and you hand over the four months of the bottle and the six of the refill in one go: up to about ten months of scent, with the topping up already paid for. For France, Germany and Luxembourg there is a second reason to order them together, because above €60 the €9.95 delivery charge drops away.
We do not sell those two as a ready-made set, so you put them in the basket separately. If it does need to arrive as a set, the Discovery Set at €58 pairs the candle and the reed diffuser from a single scent world, so it contains a candle rather than a refill. It sits with the rest on the gift collection.
And the candles?
Not refillable, and we will not half-promise otherwise. A scented candle is 100% natural sunflower wax around a cotton wick, and what burns is the product itself. There is no refill for it and we do not sell one.
What a candle is instead: 200 g, around 50 burn hours, perfume oils from Grasse, hand-poured in Belgium, cruelty free, IFRA compliant and CLP certified. €32. If you are looking for a sustainable candle gift, that is the honest description of ours, and the piece on sunflower wax explains why we chose it instead of paraffin. The candles themselves are on the candle page.
Put simply: for a gift that carries on, give reed diffusers. For a gift that makes an evening, give a candle. They do different jobs, and that is exactly right.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a reed diffuser last? A 100 ml bottle scents a room for up to about four months, a 250 ml one for up to about six. Exactly how long depends on the room and on where the bottle stands: in a warm or draughty space the oil evaporates faster than it does in a cool hallway.
Can you refill a scented candle? No. An Insphirea candle is 100% natural sunflower wax around a cotton wick, and that wax burns away. There is no refill for it and we do not sell one. Refillable applies to the Harmonea and Reposea reed diffusers only. Candles and room sprays are not.
Which countries do you deliver to? 31 countries across Europe. The Netherlands and Belgium are always free, with no minimum order. France, Germany and Luxembourg are €9.95, free above €60. Austria, Denmark, Italy, Spain and Sweden are €14.75, free above €80. Elsewhere the rate appears at checkout. We do not deliver outside Europe.
A scented gift that runs out is a good gift. A scented gift you can top up is the same gift with a second act. Pick the scent on the reed diffuser page and put the matching refill beside it. Everything else worth giving sits together on scented gifts from €15 to €88.
