Why our scented candles are made from sunflower wax

Not all wax is the same. The choice of wax decides how cleanly a candle burns, how well the scent is released and where the raw material comes from. We pour our candles from 100% sunflower wax. Here is why, and how that choice compares to other kinds of wax.

What is sunflower wax

Sunflower wax is made from the oil of sunflower seeds, a plant-based and renewable raw material. It is a soft, natural wax that burns clean and calm. For us it is the foundation of a candle you can light every day with a clear conscience.

100% sunflower wax, no paraffin

Our candles contain sunflower wax only, with no paraffin. Paraffin is a by-product of crude oil and is often used because it is cheap, but it tends to give off more soot. By choosing fully plant-based sunflower wax, we keep the burn cleaner and the raw material natural.

Hand-poured in our own atelier

Every candle is poured by hand in our own atelier. That means small batches and attention per candle, rather than mass production. You see it in an even wax surface and a steady, uniform burn.

A clean, even burn

Sunflower wax next to other waxes

To put the choice in perspective, an honest look at what is commonly used:

• Paraffin. Cheap and widely used, but it comes from crude oil and tends to give off more soot.
• Soy wax. Plant-based and burns neatly, a common and solid alternative.
• Coconut wax. Plant-based and burns beautifully, but pricier and less widely available.
• Beeswax. Natural and long-burning, but animal-derived and on the expensive side.

We chose sunflower wax because it is plant-based and renewable, burns clean and even, and carries the scent well. For us that is the best balance between a natural raw material and a candle that does what it should.

From the wax to the scent

A clean wax is the start, the scent finishes it. Our fragrance oil comes from Grasse, the French heart of perfumery. The scents are IFRA-compliant and our candles are CLP-certified, so you know they meet the applicable guidelines. And we work cruelty-free.
